Schedule a Nature & Forest Therapy Walk
What to expect on a guided Nature and Forest Therapy Walk
-
A peaceful, slow immersion in nature focused on sensory awareness and presence. We'll move at an easy pace, with frequent pauses and time to rest. The walk lasts approximately 2 and one-half hours covering a distance of up to one mile on an easy trail.
-
This is "sauntering" in nature; not hiking, racing, or jogging.
-
A balanced feeling of restored connection to all life.
-
An introduction to the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku.
-
An understanding that humans are intricately connected to the More-Than-Human-World and each other.
-
An experience designed for adults and older children who are comfortable spending extended time in a quiet, reflective, natural setting.
-
What it's not: Naturalist walk, Exercise course, Hiking/Mapping Excursion
Why Do I Need a Guide?
The answer is similar to the question: "Why do I need a strength training coach?" Unless I know about progressive overload, proper form, or correct exercises for target body areas, I need someone who does--a strength training coach. I need support from someone who has the skills and knowledge to help me be successful.
A certified Nature and Forest Therapy guide is trained to facilitate slow and mindful walks in nature. Guides have Wilderness First Aid certification and are familiar with the trails/paths; they use their skills and knowledge to create a safe experience in nature. Guides know how to slow the pace and "open the door" for each participant using customized "invitations" based on what Nature is offering in the moment to ensure a meaningful experience.
"Nature is the Therapist; the Guide Opens the Door."
